Over the past two years Esther Leong and Simon Webb have become familiar faces at the Sunday morning service and they got engaged in May this year. They will be married by David Walsh at St Mary Abbots on Friday 27 September.
“We started off planning to marry in a tiny chapel in Devon,” Esther said. “Now we’ve swung to the opposite extreme.”
The couple first met in 2008 and Simon explained that their marriage is “part and parcel” of their lifelong commitment to each other. On Sunday 28 July David read the first banns for their marriage.
“People’s reaction was lovely,” said Simon. “They were very excited about it. David got us to stand up and said a prayer.”
In record time they have organised not only the service but also their reception at the Orangery in Holland Park. Which brings them full circle since, ironically, Simon was due to collect Esther for their first date from Holland Park five years ago, but she left when he failed to turn up on time. Clearly this was not the end but the beginning of the story.
