From 16 – 19 June I was part of a group of over 20 priests from the Diocese of London who travelled to Berlin to learn more about the church in Berlin and the context for its ministry. The trip was organised by Sion College, which was founded in 1630 and which promotes learning and fellowship among London clergy.
Over the past five years I have already got to know quite a few clergy from Berlin because of my involvement in the Diocesan Link with the Diocese of Berlin-Brandenburg. Some of you may remember that in November 2012 we were joined on a Sunday morning by Peter Martins, a pastor from Berlin who was staying with me as part of the Link.
As we in London reflect on our ministry and mission, it helps to be in conversation with church leaders in another major European capital, so that we can learn from one another. In many ways our situations are different. But in other ways our challenges are similar. The growing diversity in our cities is an obvious example.
I am hoping to continue my conversations with German pastors and their churches and will let you know as things develop.
